US-based physician donates G$4.7M in medical books to UG

Dr Keith Cummings, an overseas-based Guyanese physician, has gifted the University of Guyana Library (UG) medical books to the tune of G$4.7 million, as they cover areas inclusive of medicine, biology, and social sciences.
Like his past donations, Dr Cummings is hoping that the medical books and journals provided will improve the quality of education, research and training for new physicians in Guyana.
This donation was accepted by the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Dr Emanuel Cummings on behalf of the university. He expressed gratitude to the donor and his collaborators, namely: Dr Stephen Carryl, Dr Ali Hassoun, Dr Dwain Wood, Dr Dhanna Etwaru, Dr Phillip McPherson, Dr Sherly Abraha, and Dr Leon Lewis, for their continued kindness and commitment to the University.
Having graduated as part of the institution’s medicine field in 2003, Dr Cummings frequently has returned to Guyana to provide medical education sessions on a variety of topics in Linden, Georgetown and Berbice over the past four years, as well as philanthropic work with several churches in Berbice and at his former primary and secondary schools.
In 2017, he accepted a teaching assignment in Atlanta, Georgia, where he worked as an assistant professor of medicine and academic hospitalist in one of the southern US premiere healthcare systems— Emory University Hospital. Dr Cummings is now practising in New York.
